LAUTECH Reaffirms Strong Partnership with NELFUND, Clarifies Loan Disbursement Update The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology has reaffirmed its cordial and productive relationship with the Nigerian Education Loan Fund following recent media interpretations regarding student loan disbursements. In a statement, the university expressed appreciation for NELFUND’s continued support, noting that more than ₦1.4 billion was successfully disbursed to its students in 2025. According to the institution, the intervention significantly reduced financial burdens and improved access to education for many students. Speaking during a pre-convocation press briefing, the university explained that about 19,000 students applied for the NELFUND scheme, while over 15,000 applications have already been verified in line with established procedures. The management further disclosed that within the current 2025/2026 academic session, a total of 5,237 students have been approved and are awaiting disbursement, while other verified applications remain at various stages of processing. LAUTECH clarified that parts of the update were misinterpreted in some quarters, creating the false impression that NELFUND was unwilling or unable to release funds. “The university wishes to state clearly that this is not the case. At no time did LAUTECH suggest any reluctance or failure on the part of NELFUND,” the statement said. The institution added that its intention was solely to highlight progress made so far and reassure stakeholders that the disbursement process remains ongoing and on course. LAUTECH reiterated its commitment to sustaining its partnership with NELFUND and other relevant stakeholders to ensure students continue to receive the financial support needed to pursue their academic goals. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that the sale of application forms for the 2025 Direct Entry (DE) admission will commence on Wednesday, 12 March 2025.

The DE application process is designed for candidates who already hold diplomas or A-level certificates and seek direct admission into Nigerian universities without sitting for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB stated that the DE registration begins following the conclusion of the 2025 UTME application, which closed on 8 March 2025.

“This registration process is crucial for individuals who possess degrees, diplomas, or A-level certificates and wish to advance their education at their preferred universities,” the statement read.

JAMB revealed that a total of 2,030,627 UTME applications were received, alongside 200,115 for the Mock-UTME and 630 for the trial mock examination.

Reiterating its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the admissions process, JAMB warned that any false declaration in the DE application would attract severe penalties.

To ensure authenticity, the Board has set up a special committee to verify all submitted A-level qualifications, while institutions have been advised to conduct independent checks before offering admission.

“A special committee will verify all submitted Advanced A-level qualifications, and any fraudulent results will lead to prosecution. Additionally, institutions are encouraged to directly verify certificates before considering admissions,” JAMB stated.

JAMB emphasized that DE registration can only be carried out at JAMB Professional Registration Centres (PRCs) nationwide, warning applicants against using unauthorized agents.

In recent years, the Board has introduced several reforms to enhance transparency in the admissions process. These include:

Mandatory NIN verification, biometric authentication, the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS)

As the 2025 admission cycle progresses, JAMB urged prospective DE candidates to meet all eligibility requirements and adhere strictly to registration guidelines to avoid disqualification.
