Terrorism cannot thrive in isolation; it survives through networks of support, logistics, and hidden collaborators. One of the major factors sustaining the activities of terrorists and criminal elements in Nigeria is the alleged supply of essential commodities, particularly food items, by individuals or groups who aid their operations.

Many of these terrorists have turned remote forests and ungoverned spaces into hideouts, using such locations as bases from which they launch attacks, abduct innocent citizens, and demand ransom. These forests have become holding grounds where victims are often taken after abductions, making the availability of basic necessities, especially food and water, critical to the survival of these criminal groups.

Surviving in isolated forest environments for months or even years without external assistance would be extremely difficult. The continuous availability of food supplies provides terrorists with the physical strength and endurance needed to carry out attacks on communities, schools, highways, and vulnerable citizens. Without such support systems, their ability to operate effectively would be significantly weakened.

This therefore raises a serious national security question: who are the individuals, groups, or networks providing these supplies, and how are they able to operate without detection? Tackling terrorism requires more than military operations alone; it demands the dismantling of the support structures that sustain these criminal activities.

Security agencies must intensify intelligence-driven operations aimed at identifying and arresting those who provide logistical assistance to terrorists. This requires stronger collaboration with citizens, market associations, transport operators, and community leaders, especially those who interact regularly with people involved in the movement and sale of food items.

Traders and business owners should be encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspicious transactions or unusual activities that may suggest the movement of supplies to criminal groups. Such cooperation can provide valuable intelligence capable of exposing not only the immediate suppliers but also the wider networks and sponsors behind these acts of terror.

While Nigeria’s security agencies have continued to demonstrate courage and commitment in the fight against insurgency, banditry, and other forms of insecurity, defeating terrorism requires a collective national effort. The battle cannot be won by security forces alone; citizens must play an active role in protecting the nation by providing credible information and resisting any form of collaboration with criminals.

The sacrifices of Nigeria’s security personnel, who continue to risk their lives to protect communities, deserve recognition. Their dedication remains a vital part of the country’s struggle to restore peace and security.

However, the ultimate success of this fight depends on eliminating every form of support that enables terrorists to survive and operate. A nation determined to defeat terrorism must not only confront those who carry weapons but also expose and dismantle the hidden networks that keep them alive.
