The public display of huge sums of ransom money allegedly collected from the families, relatives, and friends of abducted Nigerians has continued to generate anger, outrage, and widespread concern among citizens and the international community.

The act, which involves terrorists flaunting money forcefully obtained from vulnerable Nigerians who can barely afford basic needs, has raised serious questions about the level of confidence and boldness displayed by criminal elements operating within the country.

The public exhibition of ransom proceeds suggests a disturbing level of audacity in terrorism, with the perpetrators seemingly showing little fear of arrest or consequences. Many Nigerians are questioning how a country regarded as the “Giant of Africa” and one that has contributed immensely to peacekeeping efforts across the continent has become a platform where terrorists openly challenge state authority.

The question on the lips of many citizens is: When did Nigeria, the Giant of Africa, become a playing field for terrorists to operate with such confidence? The very individuals who should be hiding from security agencies are now publicly displaying money allegedly obtained through the suffering and trauma of innocent citizens.

Beyond displaying ransom proceeds, these terrorists have also taken the disturbing step of recording themselves and sharing videos on social media, boasting about their activities and projecting an image of supremacy. Such actions demonstrate not only their willingness to continue committing violence but also their belief that they can operate with impunity.

The greatest source of anger among Nigerians is the confidence with which these criminals showcase ransom money to the public, including the victims and their families. That such acts can take place openly in a sovereign nation is deeply troubling and reflects the urgent need for stronger security measures and improved intelligence operations.

The continuous circulation of such videos has also affected public confidence in leadership, as many citizens struggle to understand how perpetrators of these crimes can broadcast their activities without being swiftly identified and brought to justice.

Nigerians are increasingly tired of repeated assurances that “we are on top of the situation” while abductions and attacks continue across various parts of the country. Beyond statements of commitment, there is a growing demand for decisive action capable of protecting lives and property.

Observers have continued to ask: How long will innocent Nigerians continue to suffer and lose their lives to terrorism? The fight against insecurity requires more than promises; it requires sustained strategies, accountability, and urgent measures to dismantle criminal networks whose mission is to kill, destroy, and spread fear.
