Tension has enveloped residents of Ogbomoso following a daring late-night attack by unidentified gunmen on the command office of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) located along the Ogbomoso–Ilorin Expressway.

The incident, which occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, saw the assailants invade the facility situated near the NNPC Filling Station and the busy Ayanyan Cattle Market, where they reportedly overpowered personnel on duty and carted away service firearms.

Scoopchase gathered that the attackers carefully exploited the cover of darkness and the noisy environment around the cattle market to launch the operation unnoticed. The coordinated assault enabled them to disarm the officers, seize an undisclosed number of weapons, and escape before security reinforcements arrived.

Although no life was lost and no abduction was recorded during the attack, the incident has heightened concerns among residents over the vulnerability of security formations within the ancient city.

Reacting to the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said on Wednesday morning that the command had not received any official briefing on the matter at the time of contact.

Meanwhile, security agencies have reportedly intensified surveillance and patrols along the expressway axis as investigations commence into the breach and efforts continue to track down the perpetrators.
