The Fusengbuwa ruling house of Ijebu-Ode has formally disowned popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshall (K1 De Ultimate), declaring that he is not a member of the family and therefore not qualified to contest for the vacant Awujale throne.

The ruling house also announced December 15 as the date for the nomination of candidates seeking to succeed the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, whose 65-year reign ended with his death in July. The shortlisted nominees will then be presented to the kingmakers, who have seven days to select the new monarch.

Speaking at a press briefing at Ile Nla on Thursday, the spokesperson for the Fusengbuwa Nomination Committee, Abiodun Ogidan, dismissed Ayinde’s claim of belonging to the ruling house, describing it as false.

Ogidan said:
“We just concluded a family meeting attended by all Olori Ebi and the heads of the Jadiara and Fusengbuwa families. After reviewing the lineage data form submitted by Wasiu Ayinde, it has been confirmed that he is absolutely not a member of the Fusengbuwa ruling house.

“Let it also be noted that Awujale nomination forms were never issued to him. The process had already closed by the time he began claiming descent from our family.

“How can someone who has never attended our meetings or contributed to our family suddenly emerge at this crucial moment to rewrite history? This is 2025—no one can deceive us. He is not one of us and cannot be part of this process.”

The meeting was chaired by Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi, with Otunba Adedokun Ajidagba, Prof. Fassy Yusuf, Prof. Lasun Gbadamosi, and several other notable family members in attendance.

In a separate development, the Oduneye family of Ijebu-Ode—a branch of the Jadiara royal structure—also rejected the musician’s claim, insisting he is not a descendant of their lineage.

Representing the family at Ile Nla, Alhaja Adesumbo Oduneye expressed shock that Ayinde’s lineage form was signed by her half-brother, Adetayo Oduneye, whom she described as “neither the family head nor an authorised representative.”

She said:
“We were shocked to see the Fusengbuwa lineage data form signed by Adetayo Oduneye. Yes, he is one of our late father’s children, but he is not the head of the Oduneye family.

“We know nothing about the Setejoye lineage he referenced. Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde is not a member of the Oduneye family or the Jadiara royal house. Our family at home and abroad has sent me to state clearly that he is not one of us.”

She added that Adetayo Oduneye was acting alone and accused him of attempting to distort historical facts—an act the family vowed not to tolerate.

Ayinde had last week publicly declared his intention to succeed the late Awujale, insisting that he hails from the Jadiara ruling house, a sub-unit of the Fusengbuwa family, whose turn it is to produce the next monarch. His lineage form was reportedly endorsed by Adetayo Oduneye, who claimed to be the head of the Setejoye unit of the Jadiara royal house.
