The Federal Polytechnic, Ayédé, Iresapa Temporary Campus, Iresapa, Oyo State held its third matriculation ceremony today, admitting a total of 527 students for the 2024/2025 academic session. The event, which took place at the institution’s TETFund Auditorium, was graced by distinguished personalities from various walks of life.

In his address to the new students, the Rector, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adékúnlé Abdul-Hammed, described the matriculation ceremony as a significant milestone in their academic journey. He emphasized that the event marks the official commencement of their studies and induction into the Polytechnic, which is dedicated to equipping students with the knowledge and practical skills necessary for success in their chosen careers.

Dr. Abdul-Hammed highlighted the institution’s rapid progress since its establishment in March 2021. He noted that, despite the challenges of setting up a new institution, he and three other principal officers had worked tirelessly to lay a solid foundation for academic and technological excellence. He further stated that, under his leadership as the pioneer Rector, the Polytechnic became the first among the six newly established polytechnics to commence both administrative and academic activities in June 2022.

From its modest beginnings, the institution has now grown to over 1,200 students, making it the leading institution in student enrollment among its contemporaries. He urged the newly admitted students to embrace discipline, diligence, and innovation in their academic pursuits. Additionally, he called on staff and stakeholders to remain steadfast in their commitment to excellence.

Addressing recent media reports alleging the collapse of a building at the Polytechnic’s permanent site, Dr. Abdul-Hammed categorically refuted the claims. He clarified that no such incident had occurred on either the temporary or permanent campuses. He explained that what was falsely reported as a building collapse was, in fact, a minor structural issue involving a cantilever under construction. He assured that the contractor handling the project was already addressing the issue under strict supervision. He urged the public to disregard the misinformation, which he described as an attempt to undermine the Polytechnic’s progress.

The ceremony concluded with a renewed commitment from the institution’s leadership to uphold academic excellence and provide students with a conducive learning environment.
