The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) has honoured Engr. Open Salawu with the prestigious Champion of Ibadan Development award, commending his contributions to the city’s progress and recognizing Governor Seyi Makinde’s unwavering commitment to infrastructural transformation across Ibadanland.
Speaking at the event, which was held under the leadership of CCII President General, Barrister. Chief Sulaimon Ajewole, Engr. Salawu expressed deep appreciation for the recognition. He gave special thanks to Chief Bayo Oyero, the Aare Mayegun of Ibadanland, for presenting the award.
“I extend heartfelt gratitude to the leadership and members of CCII for this honour. It is a testament to the shared vision for the growth of Ibadanland,” Salawu stated.
CCII, an umbrella body for all socio-cultural societies and clubs of Ibadan origin both locally and in the diaspora, aims to harmonize and coordinate developmental efforts that promote the social, economic, educational, and cultural advancement of Ibadanland.
In his remarks, Salawu emphasized the city’s historical infrastructure gaps and lauded Governor Makinde’s exceptional performance in bridging them. “Governor Seyi Makinde stands out among past governors for his consistent and strategic infrastructure development in Ibadan,” he said.
He highlighted major ongoing projects, including the 110-kilometre Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road, which will connect critical locations such as the Ibadan-Ife Expressway, Moniya Train Station, Ibadan Inland Dry Port, and the proposed Oluyole Free Trade Zone. The Circular Road is expected to ease traffic congestion and stimulate economic activity across Oyo State.
Salawu also cited the upgrade of the Ladoke Akintola Airport into a modern, world-class facility, a move that is set to enhance air travel, attract investments, and further empower the people of the state.
He noted that over 100km of township roads have been resurfaced and real estate development is booming, reflecting Ibadan’s rapid transformation.
“Numerous projects in the education and healthcare sectors are also underway, further solidifying Ibadan’s growth trajectory,” Salawu said.
As Chairman of the Project Performance Monitoring Agency, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to equitable development. “Governor Makinde is relentless in project delivery. Every zone in Oyo State will receive its fair share of infrastructure development,” he assured.
