University of Ilorin Honours Asipa of Ogbomosoland, Adeyemi Adekunle, with Ambassador Award

The Asípa of Ogbomosoland and retired Permanent Secretary of the Federation, Sir Barrister Olusegun Adeyemi Adekunle, OON, KJW, has been honoured with the prestigious University of Ilorin Ambassador Award alongside other distinguished Nigerians.

The award was presented on Monday, August 17, 2026, at a special ceremony held at the University Auditorium of the University of Ilorin.

The recognition was conferred on individuals whose achievements, contributions and commitment to service have positively impacted the University of Ilorin and the wider society.

Sir Adeyemi Adekunle was recognised for his sustained commitment to promoting the ideals, image and development of the University of Ilorin, as well as his contributions to public service, leadership, academic engagement and community development.

The honour further adds to the distinguished record of the Ogbomoso-born public servant, who also served as the immediate past President of the prestigious Ogbomoso First Group. Throughout his career, he has been associated with public service, leadership, intellectual engagement and initiatives aimed at advancing society.

The ceremony attracted prominent academics, public servants, professionals, business leaders, alumni and friends of the university, who gathered to celebrate the achievements of the honourees.

Among those honoured alongside Sir Adeyemi Adekunle were Emeritus Professor Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, CON, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin and immediate past Registrar and Chief Executive of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB); Engineer Bayo Ojulari, immediate past Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC); and Chief AbdulRaheem Oladimeji, OFR, proprietor of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin.

Other distinguished recipients included eminent alumni and professionals who have made significant contributions to education, public administration, business, law, healthcare and national development.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Egbewole, SAN, said the ceremony, tagged “The Homecoming Celebration and the Investiture for the Award of Excellence, Distinguished Alumni and Unilorin Ambassadors,” was designed to celebrate excellence and honour individuals whose contributions reflect positively on the university and society.

According to him, the recognition also seeks to promote excellence, patriotism, service and continued commitment to humanity.

For Sir Adeyemi Adekunle, the award represents another significant milestone in a distinguished career of service and leadership. It also underscores his enduring commitment to the development of Ogbomosoland, the University of Ilorin and Nigeria at large.

The honour has further placed his name among distinguished personalities recognised for their contributions to the growth, development and advancement of the University of Ilorin and the nation.
