In a ceremony rich in colour, tradition, and solemnity, the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Ogbomoso Diocese, has formally installed the Asipa of Ogbomosoland, High Chief Barrister Olusegun Adeyemi Adekunle, OON, KJW, as the Chancellor of the Diocese.

The induction formed a major highlight of the first session of the 7th Synod of the Diocese, held at Agboyin, Ogbomoso, where clergy, laity, and distinguished guests gathered in large numbers to witness the historic occasion. The Bishop of Ogbomoso Diocese, the Right Reverend Titus B. Olayinka, PhD, presided over the ceremony and performed the formal investiture.

Delivering his charge, Bishop Olayinka underscored the strategic importance of the office of Chancellor within the Anglican Communion, describing it as a position reserved for individuals of proven legal expertise, integrity, and deep commitment to the Church. He explained that the Chancellor serves as the chief legal adviser to the Diocese, representing its interests in all legal matters while offering guidance on governance and policy.

The Bishop emphasised that beyond professional competence, the role requires spiritual depth, moral discipline, and unwavering loyalty to the doctrines of the Church. He noted that the office holder must demonstrate exemplary character and remain committed to advancing the mission and unity of the Diocese.

He further urged the Chancellor to foster cordial relationships with both clergy and laity, noting that collaboration and unity are vital for the continued growth and stability of the Diocese. The Bishop also cautioned against involvement in actions inconsistent with Christian values, encouraging the new office holder to remain a worthy ambassador of the Church at all times.

Prayers were subsequently offered for High Chief Adekunle, with the Bishop invoking divine wisdom, knowledge, and understanding upon him. He also prayed for good health, strength, and prosperity, as well as the grace required to effectively navigate the responsibilities of the office.

Commending the new Chancellor, Bishop Olayinka highlighted his longstanding dedication to the Church, particularly his moral and financial contributions to its development. He described the appointment as well-deserved, noting that Adekunle’s track record of service and commitment made him eminently qualified for the position.

In his acceptance speech, High Chief Adekunle expressed gratitude to God and the leadership of the Diocese for the honour bestowed on him. He pledged to carry out his responsibilities in strict adherence to the constitution of the Diocese and in line with Christian principles.

He assured the Bishop and the congregation of his commitment to fairness, diligence, and integrity in handling all legal matters concerning the Church.
