British-Nigerian businessman and social media influencer Igho “Tiny” Ubiribo, popularly known as Denisi or Ego, has died at 43 after reportedly suffering a fatal complication following a cosmetic penis-enlargement procedure in Thailand.
What began as a luxury trip with his wife reportedly ended in tragedy after Ubiribo underwent the procedure at a Bangkok clinic in March.
Evidence presented during an inquest at the Inner West London Coroners’ Court reportedly showed that 40 millilitres of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine were injected into his penis.
Shortly after the procedure, Ubiribo and his wife, Danielle Simba Allen, reportedly went for a massage. It was during the outing that he complained of chest pain and collapsed twice.
He was rushed to Sukhumvit Hospital, where doctors reportedly diagnosed him with a pulmonary embolism, a life-threatening condition caused by a blood clot obstructing an artery in the lungs.
Doctors reportedly battled to save his life, performing CPR for more than 100 minutes. Their efforts, however, proved unsuccessful, as Ubiribo died in the early hours of March 6.
A subsequent postmortem examination in the United Kingdom reportedly found cellular material in his lungs consistent with the hyaluronic acid used during the cosmetic procedure.
Coroner Jean Harkin reportedly concluded that the pulmonary embolism was caused by complications arising from the cosmetic procedure.
Ubiribo, who had approximately 185,000 followers on Instagram, was known for his flamboyant lifestyle and high-profile social circle.
His final farewell in London was reportedly as extravagant as the lifestyle for which he was known. He was buried in a gold coffin said to be worth approximately $745,000, while Nigerian celebrities and personalities, including Afrobeats superstar Davido and socialite Cubana Chief Priest, were among those reported to have attended his funeral.
The tragedy has drawn attention to the potential dangers associated with cosmetic procedures and the importance of understanding their medical risks before undergoing them.
