LAUTECH Reaffirms Strong Partnership with NELFUND, Clarifies Loan Disbursement Update The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology has reaffirmed its cordial and productive relationship with the Nigerian Education Loan Fund following recent media interpretations regarding student loan disbursements. In a statement, the university expressed appreciation for NELFUND’s continued support, noting that more than ₦1.4 billion was successfully disbursed to its students in 2025. According to the institution, the intervention significantly reduced financial burdens and improved access to education for many students. Speaking during a pre-convocation press briefing, the university explained that about 19,000 students applied for the NELFUND scheme, while over 15,000 applications have already been verified in line with established procedures. The management further disclosed that within the current 2025/2026 academic session, a total of 5,237 students have been approved and are awaiting disbursement, while other verified applications remain at various stages of processing. LAUTECH clarified that parts of the update were misinterpreted in some quarters, creating the false impression that NELFUND was unwilling or unable to release funds. “The university wishes to state clearly that this is not the case. At no time did LAUTECH suggest any reluctance or failure on the part of NELFUND,” the statement said. The institution added that its intention was solely to highlight progress made so far and reassure stakeholders that the disbursement process remains ongoing and on course. LAUTECH reiterated its commitment to sustaining its partnership with NELFUND and other relevant stakeholders to ensure students continue to receive the financial support needed to pursue their academic goals. — Project executed under Nigerian Navy’s Special Intervention Quick Impact Scheme

The newly built Fedegbo Mega Aso-Ofi Weaving Ultra-Modern Centre with its location in Oyo State Ultra Modern Market, Ogbomoso North Local Government was officially commissioned yesterday Tuesday October 7, 2025, under the auspices of the Chief of Naval Staff’s Special Intervention Quick Impact Project Scheme (CNS-SIQP).

The project was facilitated by Rear Admiral Sunday John Oyegade, a senior officer in the Nigerian Navy and an illustrious son of Ogbomosoland.

Representing the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Immanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, was Rear Admiral S. D. Ibrahim. Also present were the Soun of Ogbomosoland, His Imperial Majesty Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye (Orumogege III); the project facilitator, Rear Admiral Sunday John Oyegade; Mrs. Grace Oyegade (mother of the facilitator); Mrs. Dorcas Oyegade (his wife); the Onifedegbo of Fedegbo, Oba Olaosebikan; the Iyalode of Ogbomosoland; members of the Soun-in-Council; Reverend Owoade Samuel; Sheikh Abib Ayilara; Hon. George Ogunlade, Chairman, Ogbomoso North Local Government; High Chief Otolorin, and several other distinguished guests.

In his goodwill address, His Imperial Majesty Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye (Orumogege III) expressed profound appreciation to the Nigerian Navy under Vice Admiral Immanuel Ogalla for including Ogbomosoland in its impactful intervention projects. He also commended Rear Admiral Sunday John Oyegade for his commitment to promoting Yoruba cultural heritage through the establishment of the weaving centre.

The monarch described the project as “an exceptional initiative” that would create employment opportunities for youths, revive the long-lost Aso-Ofi weaving tradition in Ogbomoso, and enhance the community’s economic activities. He further noted that the ultra-modern facility would make Ogbomoso a pace-setter in the Aso-Ofi industry across Nigeria, Africa and the entire world.

In his remarks, Rear Admiral S. D. Ibrahim, representing the Chief of Naval Staff, lauded Rear Admiral Oyegade for his dedication, describing him as “a patriotic son who has the interest of his people at heart.” He added that the successful commissioning of the centre stood as evidence of Oyegade’s love for Ogbomoso land.

Responding, Rear Admiral Sunday John Oyegade reaffirmed his commitment to the development of Ogbomoso and expressed gratitude to Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye (Orumogege III) for granting the land on which the project was built.

Other speakers, including Deaconess Oladipo and Mrs. Adenike Adesanya (the facilitator’s sister), commended the Soun of Ogbomoso for his visionary leadership, noting the rapid progress the ancient city has recorded under his reign.

The highlight of the ceremony was the ribbon-cutting of the ultra-modern centre, followed by the presentation of souvenirs to Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye (Orumogege III) and the Onifedegbo of Fedegbo, as well as a guided inspection tour of the facility led by the Soun of Ogbomoso.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Adejumo Oyegade on behalf of the Oyegade family, who appreciated the Soun for his continued encouragement to Ogbomoso sons and daughters, both at home and abroad, to contribute to the city’s development and progress.
