The 67th Founders’ Day celebration of Akinorun Grammar School Old Students Association (AGSOSA), Ikirun, was held amid pomp, glamour and intellectual engagement as old students from different generations reunited at the renowned institution for a memorable gathering.

The colourful event, which attracted alumni, students, dignitaries and members of the host community, took place within the premises of the prestigious school, widely regarded as one of the leading citadels of learning in the region.

Activities for the grand reunion commenced on Friday, May 8, 2026, with a keep-fit exercise tagged “Walk to Live” alongside a medical outreach programme aimed at promoting healthy living among participants and residents of the community.

The exercise turned into an exhilarating moment as current students of the school, alongside old students, marched through major streets of Ikirun amidst cheers and prayers from residents who applauded the institution for its immense contributions to educational growth, community development and national progress over the decades.

Delivering a lecture at the event, renowned public communication expert and Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Rave FM, Dr. Femi Adefila, presented a paper titled “Relationship Management: Benefits of Old Students Association.”

Dr. Adefila charged members of the association to go beyond merely identifying with the old students’ body and become active contributors to its development. According to him, meaningful participation, regular payment of dues and commitment to the association’s programmes remain essential for the growth and sustainability of both the association and the school.

Drawing examples from notable Ivy League institutions across the world as well as Nigeria’s famous Barewa College, which has produced several prominent national leaders, the media expert stressed that active participation in alumni activities offers immeasurable benefits.

He noted that in the present age of globalization and increasing social disconnection, old students’ associations remain one of the strongest and most enduring platforms for relationship building, networking and collective advancement.

In his remarks, the National President of AGSOSA, Prof. Tunde Farombi, who is also the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Chrisland University, urged members to rededicate themselves to the progress of the institution through active participation in programmes aimed at repositioning the school for greater academic excellence.

Prof. Farombi emphasized the need for collective commitment towards sustaining the high academic standards for which Akinorun Grammar School has been known over the years.

Highlights of the celebration included award presentations to distinguished individuals, cultural displays showcasing Yoruba heritage and traditions, as well as a pledge by the chairman of the occasion, who promised to provide borehole and toilet facilities for the school.
