Hon. Oluwaseun Remi Adeyinka, a former Caretaker Chairman of Ogbomoso Central Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC), where he has secured the party’s ticket to contest the Ogbomoso North State Constituency seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly.
Adeyinka, popularly known as Seun Alata, previously contested the same constituency in 2019 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he narrowly lost to the then incumbent, Hon. Olawumi Oladeji.
The former council chairman said his decision to join the NDC was largely influenced by the persistent calls from his supporters and admirers, whom he said had confidence in his leadership capacity and urged him to pursue the House of Assembly seat under the platform of the NDC.
Speaking with newsmen, Adeyinka acknowledged that leaving his former political platform was not an easy decision, but said circumstances had made it necessary for him to move forward.
“Yes, it was not easy leaving the APM, but in life’s journey, there comes a time when you have to move on. That is the point I reached. It was bigger than me.
“You know I have a lot of supporters and admirers who believe in what we can do and achieve together. They mounted pressure that we should leave APM to contest the House of Assembly for our constituency on the platform of the NDC, a party that has gained national prominence.
“They know my ability and encouraged me to move on. I have to hearken to them, and so I have faith that they will rally the necessary support for me.”
Adeyinka also appealed to the people of Ogbomoso North to once again support his political aspiration, recalling the strong backing he received when he contested the constituency for the first time in 2019.
He said his narrow defeat in that election, which he put at about 420 votes, demonstrated the level of acceptance he enjoyed among the electorate.
“More importantly, I appeal to the people of the constituency to show me love and support, the kind they showed me in 2019, when, as a first-timer, the incumbent defeated me narrowly by 420 votes.
“It was massive, and I really appreciate the love of the people. I urge them to re-enact the scenario and this time help us accomplish the mission.”
The NDC candidate further described himself as a homegrown politician who understands the challenges confronting the people of Ogbomoso North.
According to him, his continued presence and business interests in Ogbomoso have given him firsthand knowledge of the needs and aspirations of the people, unlike politicians who, he claimed, only return to the community during election periods.
“I live mostly in Ogbomoso. I am homegrown, I have businesses here, and I know where the shoe pinches. I know firsthand our needs in Ogbomoso North, unlike those who only come home during elections and are unfamiliar with home.
“I humbly solicit the support of the people of the constituency. My records as caretaker chairman of Ogbomoso Central LCDA are also evidence of my commitment to serve and not to be served.”
Meanwhile, the NDC appears to be gaining political momentum in Ogbomoso, with several notable politicians emerging on the platform ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Dr. Kunle Adegbite, a philanthropist and Chief Executive Officer of the Twindad Foundation, is seeking the Ogbomoso North/Ogbomoso South/Oriire Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives on the platform of the NDC.
Similarly, a popular politician, Booda Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as BSA, has secured the NDC ticket to contest the Ogbomoso South State Constituency seat.
The emergence of the trio has further heightened political activities and intensified competition ahead of the elections in Ogbomoso.
