The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has been declared the winner of the state’s governorship election held on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The declaration was made on Sunday by the State Returning Officer for the election, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti.
Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, secured victory in 19 of the state’s 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs), defeating his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who won 11 LGAs.
Declaring the result, Ogunwole said:
“That Ademola Nurudeen-Jackson Adeleke, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the August 15 governorship election and returned elected.”
According to the results announced by the returning officer, Adeleke polled 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji secured 444,815 votes. The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Najeem Salaam, came a distant third with 17,180 votes.
Adeleke won in Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Oriade, Ifelodun, Orolu, Ayedaade, Ayedire, Odo Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo, Osogbo and another Local Government Area listed in the announced results.
Oyebamiji recorded victories in Irewole, Isokan, Olorunda, Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun and Obokun.
Announcing the final figures, Ogunwole said a total of 1,010,684 voters were accredited, while 985,079 votes were declared valid. He added that 207 votes were rejected, bringing the total number of votes cast to 1,005,800.
The declaration followed the signing of the collated election results by agents representing the participating political parties.
With the final declaration, Adeleke has been formally returned as the winner of the Osun State governorship election.
