Asipa of Ogbomosoland Honoured with University of Ilorin Ambassador Award

The Asípa of Ogbomosoland and retired Permanent Secretary of the Federation, Sir Barrister Olusegun Adeyemi Adekunle, OON, KJW, has been honoured with the prestigious University of Ilorin Ambassador Award alongside other distinguished Nigerians.

The award was presented today, Monday, August 17, 2026, at a special ceremony held at the University Auditorium of the University of Ilorin. The recognition celebrates individuals whose contributions, achievements and service have positively impacted the institution and the wider society.

Sir Adeyemi Adekunle was recognised for his sustained commitment to promoting the ideals, image and development of the University of Ilorin, as well as his contributions through public service, leadership, academic engagement and community development.

The honour adds to the distinguished record of the respected Ogbomoso-born public servant, who also served as the immediate past President of the prestigious Ogbomoso First Group. His career has been marked by dedication to public service, leadership, intellectual engagement and the advancement of society.

The award ceremony brought together prominent academics, public servants, professionals, business leaders, alumni and friends of the university to celebrate the achievements of the honourees.

Among those honoured alongside Sir Adeyemi Adekunle were Emeritus Professor Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, CON, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin and immediate past Registrar and Chief Executive of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB); Engineer Bayo Ojulari, immediate past Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC); and Chief AbdulRaheem Oladimeji, OFR, proprietor of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin.

Other distinguished recipients included several eminent alumni and professionals who have contributed significantly to education, public administration, business, law, healthcare and national development.

The University of Ilorin has continued to recognise distinguished individuals whose accomplishments and contributions reflect positively on the institution and society. The Ambassador Award is also aimed at encouraging excellence, patriotism, service and continued commitment to humanity.

For Sir Adeyemi Adekunle, the recognition represents another milestone in a distinguished career of service and leadership. It also reflects his enduring commitment to the development of Ogbomosoland, the University of Ilorin and Nigeria.

The award has further placed his name among distinguished personalities recognised for their contributions to the growth and advancement of the university and the nation.
