Oyo Govt Constitutes Judicial Commission to Probe Oriire Students’ Abduction
The Oyo State Government has constituted a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the abduction of students and teachers in Esinele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area of the state on May 15, 2026.
The commission is expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, unravel the factors that led to the abduction and make appropriate recommendations to prevent a recurrence.
The Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, July 30, 2026, noting that the Judicial Commission of Inquiry would be formally inaugurated on Friday at the Executive Council Chamber, Governor’s Office, Ibadan.
According to Oyelade, the constitution of the commission is in fulfilment of the commitment made by Governor Seyi Makinde during his statewide broadcast following the release of the abducted students and teachers.
The commissioner recalled that Governor Makinde had, during the broadcast, promised to establish an independent inquiry into the incident and specifically appealed to the United Nations to intervene and investigate the kidnapping episode, which lasted for 56 days.
Oyelade said the establishment of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry underscored the state government’s commitment to uncovering the facts surrounding the incident, ensuring accountability and strengthening security measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
