One shining example is Omolade Gold, an Ogbomoso-born trailblazer who has defied the odds to establish herself in a male-dominated profession — commercial truck driving.
Despite her limited educational background, Omolade Gold has carved a niche for herself as a professional trailer driver, boldly venturing into a field that many men find daunting. Her story serves as a powerful testament that “what men can do, women can do even better.”
Omolade drives heavy-duty trucks, transporting goods such as cement and other materials across major Nigerian cities including Lagos, Ibadan, Ogbomoso, and Ilorin. Remarkably, since she began her career, she has maintained an impeccable safety record with no accidents to her name.
During a recent visit to her hometown of Ogbomoso, Omolade became an instant sensation when she drove a massive truck into Takie, the city’s commercial hub, parking in front of a prominent businessman’s depot, Jide Olódá. Residents, amazed by the rare sight, gathered around her, showering praises and celebrating her extraordinary courage and ambition.
Speaking to ScoopChase reporter, Omolade stated that she has no regrets choosing a career traditionally dominated by men. “I am neither afraid nor ashamed to drive a truck. I want to prove that women can achieve anything they set their minds to. With faith, hard work, and belief in God, nothing is impossible,” she said.
Some residents, who preferred to remain anonymous, have called on the government and well-meaning individuals to support Omolade by providing her with a truck of her own. They also urged young women who have engaged in less honorable pursuits to draw inspiration from Omolade’s example, believing that with hard work and integrity, they too can reach the pinnacle of success.
Omolade Gold’s story is a beacon of hope, reminding all that true greatness lies in resilience, hard work, and staying true to one’s values.
