LAUTECH Holds 18th Convocation Press Conference, Announces Week-Long Activities and Major Milestones

Ladoke Akintola University of Technology on Thursday, April 16, 2026, held its 18th Convocation Press Conference at the University Senate Building Council Chambers, Ogbomoso.

The press conference commenced at about 9:20 a.m. with the institution’s Public Relations Officer welcoming guests and members of the press. Thereafter, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Rasaq Olatunde Rom Kalilu, addressed members of the University Governing Council, principal officers, staff, and invited guests.

Among those in attendance were the Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Registrar, Bursar, University Librarian, Provosts of Colleges, Deans of Faculties, Dean of the Postgraduate School, professors, and other senior officials of the institution.

Professor Kalilu announced that the 18th Convocation ceremonies would run for one week with the following activities:

Thursday, April 16, 2026 – Press Conference, Research Fair, and Exhibition

Friday, April 17, 2026 – Jumat Service

Sunday, April 19, 2026 – Church Service

Monday, April 20, 2026 – Alumni Day and Convocation Play

Tuesday, April 21, 2026 – Convocation Lecture

Wednesday, April 22, 2026 – Admission to First Degrees and Presentation of Prizes

Thursday, April 23, 2026 – Award of Postgraduate Diplomas, Admission to Higher Degrees, Conferment of Higher Degrees, and 36th Founders’ Day Celebration

The Vice-Chancellor disclosed that a total of 7,641 students would graduate in the first-degree category. The breakdown is as follows:

137 – First Class

1,889 – Second Class Upper

3,549 – Second Class Lower

1,008 – Third Class

37 – Pass

He added that graduates were produced through three modes of study: regular, part-time, and distance learning.

For the postgraduate category, Professor Kalilu revealed that 2,582 graduands would receive various postgraduate qualifications, including:

596 – Academic and Professional Postgraduate Diplomas

1,850 – Academic and Professional Master’s Degrees

9 – Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) Degrees

127 – Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Degrees

Speaking on the achievements of his administration, the Vice-Chancellor said the university had overcome the instability and turbulence it experienced before his appointment, leading to uninterrupted academic sessions since he assumed office.

He also stated that longstanding issues relating to transcript processing and certificate issuance had been resolved. According to him, graduating students now receive their certificates and transcript copies more efficiently.

Professor Kalilu further noted that delays in staff promotions had been addressed. He said promotion letters for the 2024 exercise had been prepared and distributed, while the 2025 promotion exercise would soon be concluded. He added that the university was committed to completing the 2026 promotion process before the October deadline.

The Vice-Chancellor attributed the university’s progress to the dedication of staff members and the Governing Council. He also expressed gratitude to Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde for his continued support and commitment to the growth of the institution.
