In a humanitarian gesture aimed at easing the burden of diabetes management, the Jolaade & Adeyi Foundation on Monday distributed free diabetes medications to 102 patients at the Diabetics Unit of the State Hospital, Sunsun, in Ogbomoso South Local Government Area.

The outreach, organised by the children of the late Mrs. Mary Jolaade Ajao, marked the formal kick-off of the Foundation’s activities and drew the presence of members of the Ajao family, relatives, friends, and well-wishers.

Beneficiaries of the gesture expressed deep appreciation to the Foundation for its foresight, generosity, and compassion towards people living with diabetes. Many offered prayers for the children of the late Mrs. Ajao, asking God to reward their kindness and sustain their commitment to the care of diabetes patients.

Speaking with Scoopchase at the event, Professor Jide Ajao explained that the decision to establish the Jolaade & Adeyi Foundation which has been doing interventions for years in education and poverty alleviation was inspired by their late mother’s long personal battle with diabetes.

“Our mother, Mrs. Mary Jolaade Ajao, lived with diabetes for years and managed the condition diligently until her passing,” he said. “This Foundation is our way of honouring her memory and supporting others who are going through similar health challenges.”

Professor Ajao urged people living with diabetes not to see the condition as a death sentence, stressing that with proper management, discipline, and adherence to medical advice, patients can live healthy and productive lives.

“Diabetes is not a death sentence if it is properly managed and regulated through medications as prescribed by medical professionals,” he added.

He further assured that the drug distribution programme would not be a one-off event, promising that the Foundation would make the support for diabetes patients an annual initiative under the Jolaade & Adeyi Foundation.

The event underscored the growing role of private initiatives and family-led foundations in complementing public healthcare efforts, particularly in the management of chronic diseases such as diabetes.

Accompanied the family is the duo of immediate past Ogbomoso Reacreaction Club Golf Captain, Chief Pekun Amstrong Olaleye and the incumbent Golf Captain, Engineer Yinka Aderibigbe
