LAUTECH Reaffirms Strong Partnership with NELFUND, Clarifies Loan Disbursement Update The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology has reaffirmed its cordial and productive relationship with the Nigerian Education Loan Fund following recent media interpretations regarding student loan disbursements. In a statement, the university expressed appreciation for NELFUND’s continued support, noting that more than ₦1.4 billion was successfully disbursed to its students in 2025. According to the institution, the intervention significantly reduced financial burdens and improved access to education for many students. Speaking during a pre-convocation press briefing, the university explained that about 19,000 students applied for the NELFUND scheme, while over 15,000 applications have already been verified in line with established procedures. The management further disclosed that within the current 2025/2026 academic session, a total of 5,237 students have been approved and are awaiting disbursement, while other verified applications remain at various stages of processing. LAUTECH clarified that parts of the update were misinterpreted in some quarters, creating the false impression that NELFUND was unwilling or unable to release funds. “The university wishes to state clearly that this is not the case. At no time did LAUTECH suggest any reluctance or failure on the part of NELFUND,” the statement said. The institution added that its intention was solely to highlight progress made so far and reassure stakeholders that the disbursement process remains ongoing and on course. LAUTECH reiterated its commitment to sustaining its partnership with NELFUND and other relevant stakeholders to ensure students continue to receive the financial support needed to pursue their academic goals. The statement was signed by Olayinka O. Balogun, Registrar of the university. 3 days ago

The Yoruba Nollywood industry has increasingly become a theater of absurdity, where immorality, debauchery, and scandal thrive unchecked. The recent controversy involving veteran actor and MC, Baba Tee, accused of having an affair with content creator Ijoba Lande’s wife, Dára, in a scheme allegedly orchestrated by another content creator, Marygold, has cast a dark shadow over the industry. This scandal reinforces the growing perception that the Yoruba Nollywood sector is an unreliable institution, where one must think twice before committing to a serious relationship with some of the women who earn their livelihood within it.

A true theatre industry should serve as a platform for education, cultural preservation, and moral enlightenment. Instead, it appears that Yoruba Nollywood has become a breeding ground for unchecked corruption and moral decadence. The ongoing allegations of sexual misconduct and deceit within the industry call for deep reflection, caution, and urgent reforms to restore its dignity and credibility. An industry that should be cherished and celebrated in Nigeria and beyond is, unfortunately, marred by disgraceful scandals.

It is important to acknowledge that Yoruba Nollywood has produced reputable figures like Tunde Kelani (Mainframe Productions), Tade Ogidan, Olu Jacobs, Adebayo Salami (Oga Bello), Sunday Omobolanle (Pappyluwe), Chief Lere Paimo, Prince Jide Kosoko, Kunle Afolayan, Dele Odule, Mr. Latin, Kunle Afod, Ibrahim Chatta, Femi Adebayo, Funke Akindele, Ronke Odusanya, and many others. These icons have worked tirelessly to elevate the industry without tarnishing their names. However, as in every profession, there are always a few rotten eggs.

The recent controversy surrounding Baba Tee is deeply disappointing, as he has been a respected figure in the industry. His involvement in such a scandal is akin to a man destroying his hard-earned reputation with his own hands. Some suggest he should take legal action against Marygold, who allegedly set the trap that led to his disgrace. However, given his public confession and apology to Ijoba Lande, legal action would only prolong his humiliation. The wisest course of action is to accept forgiveness, learn from the mistake, and move on.

Marygold, on the other hand, appears to be a cunning and dangerous individual who has long been involved in orchestrating such damaging plots. She deliberately sowed discord in her friend’s marriage, and Dára, driven by reckless indulgence, fell into the trap, ultimately destroying her relationship with her husband. Marygold’s actions reflect a manipulative and vindictive personality, and she should be expelled from the Yoruba film industry as a warning to others who engage in such deceitful behavior.

As for Dára, her actions are a disgrace to womanhood and marriage. A devoted wife should prioritize her husband and home, rather than engaging in a scandalous affair that has cost her her dignity, marriage, and future. No self-respecting man would willingly take back a woman who has publicly shamed him. Public opinion has already condemned her, and she must live with the consequences of her actions. Ijoba Lande would be wise to move on and seek a woman of integrity, rather than dwelling on the past.

The Yoruba Nollywood industry must instill discipline and accountability among its members. It has grown too large to be left at the mercy of reckless individuals who seek to destroy its reputation. A governing body should be established to address such scandals and enforce strict penalties on those who bring shame to the industry. Without proper regulation, Yoruba Nollywood risks losing its cultural and artistic value, leaving behind nothing but a legacy of scandal and moral decay.
