The Association of African Traditional Religion of Nigeria and Overseas (AATREN) has urged adherents of African traditional religion and other Nigerians to use the occasion of this year’s Isese Day celebration to offer prayers for the peace, unity, stability and economic advancement of the country.
AATREN’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Lekan Ajirotutu, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos.

Ajirotutu said fervent prayers were needed to help Nigeria overcome its security, economic and other challenges, urging Nigerians to continue to seek divine intervention for the country.
Isese Day is celebrated annually on August 20. Some states, including Lagos, Oyo, Ogun and Osun, have declared Thursday a work-free day or public holiday to commemorate the occasion and promote religious inclusivity and cultural tourism.
According to Ajirotutu, cultural values and identity remain important binding forces for promoting peace, unity and harmony in society.
He pledged that African traditional worshippers would continue to support the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through prayers for the success of his leadership and the overall progress of Nigeria.
Ajirotutu explained that the celebration of Isese Day was primarily aimed at preserving and promoting the identity, heritage and cultural values of African traditional worshippers.
He maintained that Africa had its own knowledge and worship of God long before the advent of Christianity and Islam, urging Nigerians to appreciate and preserve the continent’s indigenous spiritual and cultural heritage.
The AATREN official also disclosed that the association would organise a seminar in Lagos on Thursday to educate residents about African traditional religion, its history, values and cultural significance.
He urged Africans, particularly Nigerians, not to be afraid of participating in traditional cultural activities, stressing the importance of preserving the continent’s indigenous heritage for present and future generations.
