In a remarkable demonstration ofcommitment to transparency and accountability, Federal Polytechnic Ayede has stood out amongst its peers as a pioneer in compliance with the recent directive from the Federal Government requiring tertiary institutions to publish their institutional budgets and financial records online. Under the exemplary leadership of the Governing Council team, chaired by Hon. Yakubu Dati (FNIPR), and the committed management led by Rector Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed (FNSE), the Polytechnic has made significant strides in fostering trust with its stakeholders.
As part of a nationwide mandate, which set a deadline of May 31, 2025, for federal universities, polytechnics, and monotechnics to publish essential data, Federal Polytechnic Ayede has emerged as a model institution. Notably, reports (Punch Online, 3rd June, 2025) indicate that while only 19.51% of federal polytechnics and a mere 3.33% of federal monotechnics have complied, Federal Polytechnic Ayede has not only met the deadline but has done so with exceptional clarity and user-friendliness in presenting its financial records.
In a time when many institutions lag behind in adopting practices that promote good governance, Federal Polytechnic Ayede’s initiative showcases the importance of forthright communication and the establishment of a robust relationship with the local and academic communities. “Our approach is based on the belief that transparency breeds trust,” said Hon. Yakubu Dati. “We are dedicated to ensuring that our stakeholders have easy access to vital information about the institution.”
Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed echoed these sentiments, stating, “Our management team has implemented strategic measures to ensure that not only do we comply with government directives, but we also innovate in our service delivery. Our transparency is a testament to our commitment to upholding the highest standards of governance.”
As the Federal Ministry of Education, led by Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa, emphasizes the importance of web accessibility for public visibility, Federal Polytechnic Ayede is rising to the occasion, setting a prime example for other institutions to follow. The institution’s progress has been recognized by the Athena Centre for Policy and Leadership, which continues to monitor compliance across the nation.
With just a fraction of other institutions having uploaded their budgetary allocations and research grants, the leadership at Federal Polytechnic Ayede is proving that integrity and responsibility can lead the way to greatness in Nigeria’s higher education landscape.
As the community celebrates these accomplishments, Federal Polytechnic Ayede invites fellow educational institutions to join in the mission toward enhanced transparency and better governance, ultimately striving for a brighter future for Nigeria’s education system.
