In a collaborative effort to ensure quality and safety in road infrastructure, the Ogbomoso Branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), in partnership with the Oyo State Chapter of the Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (NISafetyE), paid a technical visit on Tuesday to the construction site of the Ogbomoso–Oyo Road. The project is being executed by Messrs JRB Nigeria Limited.
The joint delegation, comprising 32 members, was led by Engr. Prof. Samson Olakunle Ojoawo (FNSE), Chairman of NSE Ogbomoso Branch, and Engr. Prof. Abiola O. Ajayeoba (MNSE), Chairman of NISafetyE Oyo State Chapter.
On arrival, the delegation was received by the Technical Manager, Engr. Joseph Onoche, and the Project Manager, Engr. Ajwal Khan, who both expressed delight at the professional visit.
“We are pleased to welcome the valiant engineers from Ogbomoso and its environs to our site,” said Engr. Onoche. “As you can see, we hit the ground running. In just two months, there has been appreciable progress. We are committed to quality and timely delivery—hallmarks of our operations. Your presence today further motivates us.”
In his introductory remarks, Engr. Prof. Ojoawo commended the company for the encouraging pace of work and the incorporation of local content in their construction processes.
“We are impressed by your level of commitment,” he noted. “The visible transformation of this site in the past two months is commendable. Your use of competent professionals, health and safety protocols, soil testing, equipment deployment, and realistic scheduling are clear signs of a serious contractor.”
He emphasized the road’s strategic importance, linking the southern part of the country to the north, and stressed that a quality job is non-negotiable given public expectations.
Also speaking, Engr. Prof. Abiola Ajayeoba, Chairman of NISafetyE Oyo Chapter, urged the company to prioritize safety throughout the construction process.
“A safe work environment is crucial. Adopting proper safety measures at every stage not only protects lives and property but also demonstrates the competence of your organization.”
During the visit, the company took the team on a tour of various sections of the project. These included the sub-base preparation under the flyover, filter material installation near the box culvert and coffer dam, general right-of-way clearing, and cut-and-fill operations, among others.
The visiting engineers further advised the company to maintain excellence and durability for the sake of posterity.
In response, the company’s representatives reassured the delegation of their commitment to high standards, timely completion, and adherence to safety and engineering best practices.
