Prince Segun Akanni, Publisher of The Drum Online (Pan-Afrikan) and Convener of the annual Pan-Afrikan Drum Festival in Canada, has felicitated with Mr. Ola Awakan of TV Continental (TVC) on his appointment as Director General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC).
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced Awakan’s appointment for an initial four-year term effective September 2, 2025, reaffirming his administration’s resolve to inject fresh expertise into Nigeria’s tourism sector as part of efforts to strengthen the economy and enhance the nation’s global image.
Awakan, a seasoned journalist, news producer, cultural advocate, and initiator of Echoes of the Drums, is expected to oversee NTDC’s mandate of developing and promoting tourism across the country. The agency plays a pivotal role in identifying and marketing tourist sites, stimulating domestic and foreign tourism, encouraging investment in infrastructure, and positioning tourism as a major revenue driver for Nigeria.
In his congratulatory message, Prince Akanni urged Awakan to prioritize collaboration with private-sector operators and other key stakeholders in order to maximize the sector’s potential.
“With Awakan’s expertise and commitment, I believe the NTDC will drive sustainable tourism initiatives, strengthen industry capacity, and promote Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage,” Akanni stated.
Akanni, who also serves as Executive Director of the Global Forum for Human Rights and Sustainable Development (GFHRSD), expressed confidence in Awakan’s leadership qualities and pledged his support towards advancing Nigeria’s tourism sector.
“Your dedication and leadership skills will be a great asset to your new team,” he added.
