The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has approved a final 48-hour window for tertiary institutions that are yet to complete their student verification exercise to do so.

This was contained in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the Director of Strategic Communications of the Fund, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi.

According to the statement, the verification portal will reopen from 12:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 12, to 12:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 14, marking the last opportunity for institutions to verify their students as part of the ongoing 2024/2025 NELFUND loan application process.

“The extension is intended to ensure that all eligible students are duly captured and verified by their respective institutions,” Oluwatuyi stated.

She urged all institutions to take full advantage of this final opportunity, warning that failure to complete the process within the stipulated timeframe would result in disqualification from the current loan cycle.

“Any institution that fails to complete the verification process will forfeit participation in this loan cycle—a situation that will unfortunately deprive their students, who are the ultimate beneficiaries, of access to the scheme,” she added.

Oluwatuyi further disclosed that, in the spirit of transparency and accountability, the list of defaulting institutions would be published.

She reiterated NELFUND’s commitment to promoting equitable access to higher education through the efficient, transparent, and inclusive management of its student loan programme.
