The Oyo State Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Engr. Muftau Open Salawu, has intensified consultations with key stakeholders, community groups and residents in Ogbomoso as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s grassroots structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The extensive engagement, which lasted from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., took Salawu and his team across different segments of the community, providing opportunities for direct interaction, listening and dialogue with groups representing diverse interests.

The day began with a meeting with members of the Visually Impaired Association, reflecting Salawu’s emphasis on inclusion and the need to ensure that people living with disabilities are not left behind in the political and development process.

The team subsequently engaged faith leaders, the Students’ Association, the Youth Council and artisans, among other groups. The meetings provided a platform for stakeholders to express their concerns, expectations and aspirations while also discussing the political direction of the state ahead of 2027.

As part of the consultation, Salawu paid courtesy visits to Aare Alasa and the Alapa Compound, further broadening his engagement with traditional and community interests and reinforcing the importance of respect for indigenous institutions in grassroots politics.

A brief walk through Saja later provided another opportunity for direct contact with residents. Salawu and his entourage were warmly received by members of the community, a reception he interpreted as an indication of growing interest in the APM political movement.

Speaking during the engagements, Salawu reaffirmed his commitment to the Allied Peoples Movement, describing the party as his preferred political platform ahead of the 2027 elections.

He also expressed unwavering support for the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, stressing his confidence in the party’s grassroots structure and its capacity to present a credible alternative based on development, inclusion and responsive governance.

Beyond the political calculations of the 2027 elections, the extensive consultations underscore a fundamental principle of democratic leadership: government must remain connected to the people it seeks to serve.

For Salawu, listening to communities is not merely a campaign strategy but an essential component of responsible political engagement. His interactions across different sections of Ogbomoso highlight the importance of carrying every segment of society along—regardless of age, occupation, social status or physical ability.

As the political landscape gradually takes shape ahead of 2027, such grassroots consultations may prove critical in building trust, strengthening relationships and ensuring that political participation extends beyond campaign rallies to meaningful engagement with the people.
