The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, has discharged 31 of the 39 pupils rescued from kidnappers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State after certifying them medically fit to reunite with their families.
The hospital’s Chief Medical Director (CMD) disclosed the development on Tuesday, stating that eight other pupils would remain under close medical observation and specialist care until they make full recoveries.

According to the CMD, comprehensive medical examinations conducted on the rescued children revealed that one of the pupils has a congenital heart defect, a condition that was previously unknown to the child’s parents.
He explained that the child was diagnosed with a hole in the heart during routine post-rescue medical assessments but assured that there was no immediate cause for concern.
“The child has a hole in the heart, which was discovered during our medical evaluation. The child is stable and responding well to treatment. We have commenced the necessary medical procedures and will formally notify the Oyo State Government to facilitate the next phase of treatment,” he said.
The CMD described the discharge of the 31 pupils as a significant milestone in the rehabilitation and recovery process, noting that the remaining eight children would continue receiving specialised medical attention until they are certified medically fit for discharge.
He reassured parents and members of the public that the hospital remains committed to safeguarding the health and well-being of the rescued children, stressing that medical experts would continue to monitor both their physical and psychological conditions as part of a comprehensive post-rescue rehabilitation programme.
The pupils were among those rescued after spending several weeks in captivity following their abduction from schools in Oriire Local Government Area.
The Oyo State Government had earlier stated that all rescued victims would undergo comprehensive medical and psychological evaluations before being reunited with their families, as part of efforts to ensure their complete recovery and long-term well-being.
