An Abuja High Court has struck out a case filed by former world cruiserweight boxing champion, Bash Ali, against ex-Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, describing the case as a waste of judicial time.

Delivering judgment at Court 4 of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Maitama, the presiding judge, Justice U.P. Kekemeke, declared the suit dead, ruling that the matter lacked merit and was statute-barred.

The suit, with case number FCT/HC/CV/6411/2023, also had the Federal Government and the Ministry’s former Director of Legal Services, D.A. Muhammad, as co-defendants. Legal representatives for Sunday Dare, including Senior Advocate of Nigeria Bode Olanipekun and the law chambers of Festus Keyamo, were present in court to defend the matter.

Justice Kekemeke ruled that there was no valid contract signed between the Ministry or Sunday Dare and Bash Ali for the purported Guinness Book of Records boxing event. He further described the plaintiff’s claims as baseless and lacking evidence.

Bash Ali has, for over five years, persistently accused former Minister Dare and the Federal Government of obstructing his efforts to organize the proposed fight. His unsubstantiated allegations and public attacks have extended to at least five former sports ministers, all of whom have reportedly faced similar claims from the former boxer.
