Leadership That Connects the Presidency to the People

In the complex theatre of Nigerian politics, where public trust is earned through service, influence is measured by impact, and leadership is tested by its ability to transform promises into practical benefits, High Chief Sunday Dare, the Agba-Akin of Ogbomosoland and Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, deserves commendation for his continuing political engagement and community-oriented initiatives.
His recent grassroots mobilisation and empowerment programme in Ogbomoso demonstrates the importance of bringing governance, political participation and community development closer to the people. At a time when Nigerians are confronted with economic challenges and heightened expectations of public leadership, initiatives that combine political engagement with tangible assistance deserve recognition and encouragement.
For Ogbomosoland, Dare’s position within the Presidency represents an important opportunity to strengthen the community’s voice in national affairs. His responsibility, therefore, extends beyond partisan politics. It encompasses the broader obligation to advance the interests of his people, promote constructive engagement with government and encourage development initiatives that can improve lives.
Beyond Politics: Empowerment with a Human Face
One of the commendable features of Dare’s grassroots intervention is its practical approach to community engagement. The distribution of more than 1,000 bags of foodstuffs provided immediate assistance to beneficiaries, while the presentation of generators to vulcanisers, grinding machines and sewing machines offered selected residents opportunities to strengthen their livelihoods.
These interventions deserve appreciation because meaningful leadership must recognise both the immediate needs of the people and the importance of sustainable economic empowerment.
Food assistance can provide temporary relief to households facing hardship, while productive equipment can help small-scale entrepreneurs improve their businesses and income-generating capacity. Although such interventions cannot replace comprehensive economic policies or sustained government investment, they represent worthwhile contributions when implemented transparently and directed towards genuine beneficiaries.
We commend Chief Dare for recognising that grassroots politics should not be confined to campaign speeches, party meetings and political promises. It must also involve listening to the people, responding to their circumstances and supporting initiatives that offer practical benefits.
Education: Building the Foundation of Tomorrow
Equally worthy of commendation is the opening of a block of three classrooms at Maryland Primary School, situated within Ogbomoso Girls’ High School.
Education remains one of the most powerful instruments for social mobility, economic advancement and national development. Every effort to improve the learning environment of Nigerian children deserves serious consideration because today’s pupils are tomorrow’s professionals, entrepreneurs, public servants and community leaders.
The classroom intervention reflects the importance of directing attention towards the educational needs of the younger generation. We encourage Chief Dare to sustain this commitment and explore further opportunities to support schools, improve learning facilities and promote educational advancement throughout Ogbomosoland.
Our position is simple: political influence achieves greater significance when it contributes to the development of human potential.
A Strong Voice for Ogbomosoland Under the Tinubu Administration
As Special Adviser to President Tinubu, Chief Dare occupies a strategic position in the federal administration. His responsibilities in media and public communication place him at an important intersection between government policy, public understanding and national political engagement.
We believe this position should continue to be used constructively to attract attention to the developmental priorities of Ogbomosoland, strengthen relationships between the community and federal institutions, and encourage greater investment in infrastructure, education, healthcare, employment and security.
The ongoing importance of the Ibadan–Ogbomoso road project, which Dare highlighted during his engagement with residents, illustrates the significance of federal infrastructure to the economic prospects of the region. Better road connectivity can facilitate commerce, improve mobility and strengthen links between communities and markets.
While infrastructure delivery requires sustained institutional effort, adequate funding and effective oversight, the responsibility of influential political leaders includes advocating for projects that address the genuine needs of their constituents.
We therefore urge Dare to continue championing the interests of Ogbomosoland while supporting policies of the APC-led administration that advance national development and improve the welfare of citizens.
2027: Mobilisation, Performance and Democratic Choice
Chief Dare’s mobilisation for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 reflects his commitment to the political future of the APC and his support for continuity under the present administration.
His appeal to eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and participate actively in the electoral process is particularly important. A functioning democracy depends on informed citizens, responsible political participation and respect for the electorate’s constitutional right to choose its leaders.
We recognise Dare’s efforts to strengthen the APC’s grassroots structures and communicate the administration’s policies and achievements. However, the strongest foundation for electoral support will always be credible performance, accountability and the willingness to address citizens’ concerns.
As the 2027 presidential election approaches, we encourage him and other progressive political leaders to sustain constructive engagement with the people, communicate government policies honestly and ensure that the aspirations of ordinary Nigerians remain central to political discourse.
The electorate must ultimately be allowed to make its choice freely, based on its assessment of leadership, performance and future prospects.
Our Commendation and the Challenge Ahead
We commend High Chief Sunday Dare for combining political mobilisation with food distribution, livelihood support and educational intervention in Ogbomoso. His efforts demonstrate how political engagement can create opportunities for community-focused initiatives.
As the Agba-Akin of Ogbomosoland, his traditional standing and position in the Presidency provide a platform for promoting unity, encouraging development and strengthening the relationship between Ogbomoso and the federal government.
Nevertheless, commendation must go hand in hand with higher expectations. We urge him to build upon these interventions through sustained empowerment programmes, educational support, infrastructure advocacy and initiatives that reach vulnerable residents across all parts of Ogbomosoland.
Our considered position is that political leadership earns its most enduring honour when influence becomes service, service produces measurable progress, and progress improves the lives of the people.
Chief Sunday Dare has an opportunity to deepen his legacy by ensuring that his political influence continues to translate into tangible development for Ogbomosoland and constructive contributions to Nigeria’s democratic and economic advancement.
As the nation looks towards 2027, we encourage him to remain steadfast in promoting responsible leadership, community development and effective engagement with the people, while continuing to support the policies of the APC-led administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
For Ogbomosoland, the aspiration must be clear: politics that delivers, leadership that listens, empowerment that endures, and development that leaves no community behind.
