The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has expressed deep concern over the tragic death of one of its students, Mr. Ridwan Oladipupo, a 300-level student of the Department of Agricultural Engineering.
In a press release signed by the University Registrar, Mrs. Olayinka O. Balogun, the institution disclosed that it received unofficial reports regarding Mr. Oladipupo’s death after he had earlier been declared missing. According to the statement, Ridwan was last seen on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, when he left his off-campus residence on Lawyer Ahmed Street, Ogbomoso. He reportedly informed others that he was going out to study but did not reveal his destination.

The following day, June 25, the Acting Dean of Student Affairs was contacted by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Owode Division, who informed the University that a body had been discovered in front of Nurudeen Grammar School along Under-G Road, Ogbomoso.
Efforts by the Police and the Student Affairs Division to identify the deceased at the scene proved unsuccessful, as neither residents of the area nor students could confirm his identity. Consequently, the body was deposited at the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital mortuary.
It was not until Sunday, June 29, 2025, that the deceased’s father, accompanied by a police officer, visited the student’s hostel in search of information regarding his whereabouts. Despite this development, the University noted that it is yet to receive any official notification or representation from the family.
The University emphasized that the matter is currently under investigation by the Nigeria Police Force, Owode Division, and stated that it would refrain from making further comments in order not to compromise the investigation.
While reiterating that it operates a non-residential policy, LAUTECH affirmed its ongoing collaboration with security agencies who conduct nightly patrols in off-campus areas populated by students to help ensure their safety.
The University extended its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late student and reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to student welfare and security.
