In a bold move to combat poverty and enhance access to quality education, renowned philanthropist, community leader, entrepreneur and Babalájé of Ogbomosoland, Engineer Open Salawu, has unveiled a N20 million support initiative aimed at empowering residents and fostering long-term development.

Speaking during the announcement of the initiative, Salawu emphasized the importance of investing in people as a pathway to national progress. “We align with the ‘Build the People, Free the Nation’ mantra because we believe a nation’s prosperity depends on the empowerment and well-being of its citizens,” he stated.

According to Salawu, the initiative is strategically targeted at alleviating poverty and improving educational opportunities, particularly for children from low-income backgrounds. “Education is the key to a brighter future. Every child deserves a chance, regardless of their financial situation,” he affirmed.

The comprehensive support package includes: N10 million committed to an Education Endowment Fund, N5 million allocated for entrepreneurial ventures, and N5 million earmarked to support 100 families in funding their children’s education.

Referencing the words of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Salawu noted: “The children of the poor you failed to train will never let your children live in peace.” He stressed that this quote serves as a timeless reminder of the collective responsibility to invest in the next generation.
