Saidat Adeshina, the mother of late Nigerian Fuji singer Destiny Boy, has narrated the circumstances surrounding her son’s death, revealing that the artiste battled a serious medical condition for nearly two years before he passed away.

Speaking in a recent interview, Saidat disclosed that Destiny Boy, whose real name was Afeez Adeshina, first began experiencing seizures while preparing for the naming ceremony of his first child.

“He started having seizures at that time,” she said.

According to her, the family spared no effort in seeking a cure, exploring both orthodox and traditional medical options in a desperate bid to save his life. During this period, Destiny Boy was introduced to an Ifa priest, Edun Ifayomi, whom he reportedly regarded as a father figure.

Saidat explained that the priest was deeply concerned about the singer’s wellbeing and offered both spiritual and financial support, including contributing to hospital bills and donating a cow for the child’s naming ceremony.

“This happened about two years ago. The Ifa priest was not even aware initially that Destiny Boy was sick. We later informed him and he said nothing must happen to my son,” she recounted.

She added that when medical efforts proved unsuccessful, the family sought spiritual intervention from the priest, who gave her a soap to bathe the singer with. According to her, Destiny Boy appeared stable for a while afterward.

Saidat described the ailment, locally referred to as ‘Oku or’, as a condition that caused severe seizures, stiffness similar to epilepsy, and abnormal behaviour after each episode.

“Anytime it strikes, he becomes stiff like someone with epilepsy, and when he recovers, he behaves like someone with a mental disorder,” she explained.

She said the family deliberately kept his health condition away from the public to protect his image as a rising music star. Despite taking him to churches, herbalists and other healers, no lasting solution was found.

The singer’s final moments, she said, occurred about two weeks ago after a trip to Ayetoro, when he was taken to Ifayomi’s residence for further treatment. She narrated that while she was unable to travel immediately due to work commitments, she was reassured that he was doing well.

However, his condition reportedly worsened days later, leading to another seizure episode. He was eventually rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“By the time I got to the hospital, they told me he had passed away. My son did not do any money ritual,” Saidat stated firmly.

Destiny Boy began his entertainment career at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, Lagos, where he worked as a backup dancer for Fuji legend Pasuma. He rose to fame in 2019 after his Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song ‘If’ went viral. He later released several popular covers and original songs, including ‘Lamba,’ ‘Gbese,’ and ‘Lowkey’, earning recognition in the Fuji-infused music scene.

The late singer is survived by his partner, Iremide, and their first child, born in November 2024.
