The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday to mark Eid-ul-Mawlid, the birth anniversary of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

According to the statement, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government while extending warm greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and across the world.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged Muslims to emulate the Prophet’s values of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion, stressing that these virtues are crucial for building a united and progressive nation.
He further called on Nigerians of all faiths to use the occasion to pray for peace, security, and stability in the country, as well as to support government initiatives promoting national unity and sustainable development.
“The observance of Eid-ul-Mawlid presents us with another opportunity to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, foster peaceful coexistence, and uphold the Prophet’s teachings of mutual respect and selfless service to humanity,” the minister stated.
He also encouraged citizens to remain law-abiding, security-conscious, and supportive of government policies geared towards improving the welfare of Nigerians, while wishing the Muslim Ummah a joyous and peaceful Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration.
