The Federal Government has terminated the 98km Oyo-Ogbomoso road contract previously awarded to Reynolds Construction Company (RCC).
Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, made this known on Thursday during the Federal Roads Stakeholders’ Engagement in Ibadan, themed “Enhancing Federal Roads in Oyo State: Challenges and Sustainable Solutions.”
Umahi stated that the project had suffered significant delays but assured the public that it would soon be re-awarded to a more capable contractor.
The prolonged construction has led to numerous accidents, claiming lives and causing financial losses for traders and farmers who rely on the road as a key link between the northern and southern regions of the country.
Similarly, the Federal Government recently terminated contracts for the Obajana-Benin Road, affecting three companies—Mothercat Ltd, Dantata & Sawoe Construction Ltd, and RCC Ltd—due to non-performance. Contract numbers 6136, 6137, and 6138 were revoked following the contractors’ failure to meet contractual obligations, leading to project delays and contract expiration.
In another move, the government also canceled the ₦740bn contract for the 82km Abuja-Kaduna dual carriageway, initially awarded to Julius Berger (Nig.) Plc, over similar issues of non-performance.
Umahi expressed frustration over the delays, stressing that despite funds being approved by the Federal Executive Council, some contractors failed to mobilize to site, causing severe hardship for road users.
He warned that under his leadership, the ministry would not tolerate inefficiency or sabotage by contractors hindering the administration’s progress. He further emphasized that any funded but non-performing project would face immediate termination.
