Prince Oyedele Timothy Beyioku, JP, born on 23 March 1938 in Keffi, present-day Nasarawa State, was a distinguished educationist, administrator, community leader, Justice of the Peace, mentor, patriarch and elder whose life was defined by service, integrity and commitment to humanity.
Although born outside Ogbomoso, he remained deeply connected to his ancestral roots. His paternal lineage was traced to Ile Oyalu, Masifa, Ogbomoso, while his maternal lineage originated from Ile Adesiyan, Isale Afon, Ogbomoso.
For almost nine decades, Prince Timothy lived a purposeful life, touching generations through education, leadership, family values, community service and peacemaking. To those who knew him, he was a man of discipline, wisdom, humility, hard work and selflessness.
A LIFE BUILT ON EDUCATION
Prince Timothy believed strongly in the transformative power of education. His own academic journey reflected an enduring commitment to learning and personal development.
He began his primary education at Keffi Baptist Primary Day School between 1945 and 1951 before continuing at Native Authority Primary Day School, Masifa, Ogbomoso, from 1952 to 1954. He attended Ogbomoso Grammar School from 1955 to 1960 and later Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo, where he obtained his Higher School Certificate in 1963.
His pursuit of higher education took him to the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in 1967. He subsequently attended the University of Ibadan and earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Education in 1972.
For Prince Timothy, education was not merely a qualification; it was an instrument for transforming individuals and society.
A DISTINGUISHED EDUCATOR AND MENTOR
Teaching became the principal avenue through which Prince Timothy served humanity. He regarded education as both a profession and a responsibility to shape future generations.
His distinguished career included teaching appointments at Ogbomoso Baptist Secondary Modern School and Ogbomoso Grammar School, followed by leadership positions as Vice Principal at Ejigbo Baptist High School, Origbo Anglican Grammar School, Moro, and Baptist High School, Iree.
In 1977, he was appointed Pioneer/Foundation Principal of Oke-Ila Grammar School, Oke-Ila Orangun, a responsibility that placed him at the forefront of establishing the school’s academic standards, discipline and institutional culture.
He later served as Principal of Ogbomoso Baptist High School, Ajaawa Baptist Grammar School and Ogbomoso Grammar School, Ogbomoso, where he served until his retirement from the teaching service in December 1995.
Although he retired from formal teaching, he never retired from mentoring, counselling and serving humanity.
A LEGACY OF COMMUNITY SERVICE
Prince Timothy’s retirement opened another chapter of active community leadership.
He served as Treasurer of the Ogbomoso Parapo Federal Council from 1989 to 1994, contributing his experience, prudence and integrity to the advancement of Ogbomoso unity and development.
He also served as President of the Masifa Progressive Union, Ogbomoso, from 1993 to 2016, providing more than two decades of purposeful leadership. His tenure was characterised by commitment to community development, unity, welfare and peaceful coexistence.
His leadership philosophy was simple: leadership was not about titles or personal glory but about responsibility, sacrifice and service to the people.
A CHAMPION OF PEACE AND JUSTICE
One of the significant honours of his later years was his service as a Justice of the Peace (JP).
Prince Timothy was the Pioneer/Foundation Zonal Chairman of the Justices of the Peace, Ogbomoso Zone. In that role, he helped establish and provide direction for the zonal structure, bringing to bear his reputation for integrity, fairness, maturity and wisdom.
As a peacemaker, he promoted reconciliation, mutual understanding and harmonious relationships. His commitment to peace was not merely an official responsibility; it was an expression of his character.
He believed in truth, justice, forgiveness and reconciliation.
THE PATRIARCH AND FAMILY MAN
Beyond his professional achievements and community responsibilities, Prince Timothy’s greatest legacy was his family.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, counsellor and patriarch. To his children, he was a disciplinarian whose firmness was tempered by love. To his grandchildren, he was a source of wisdom, warmth and guidance. To the wider family, he was a dependable elder whose counsel was deeply valued.
He believed in education, good character, hard work, responsibility, humility and respect for others. Many of his most enduring lessons were not found in textbooks but were demonstrated through his conduct, sacrifices, discipline and service.
His life became a living lesson to those around him.
A LEGACY THAT WILL ENDURE
Prince Oyedele Timothy Beyioku, JP, leaves behind a legacy that extends far beyond the positions he occupied.
He was an educator who shaped minds, a pioneering school principal who helped build an institution, a mentor who inspired generations, a community leader who served his people, a Justice of the Peace who promoted harmony, and a patriarch who provided direction and stability to his family.
His footprints remain in the lives of the students he taught. His influence survives in the institutions he helped build. His wisdom lives on in those he counselled, while his values continue through his children, grandchildren and the wider community.
His was a life defined not by the pursuit of applause, but by service, responsibility, sacrifice and enduring impact.
A FINAL FAREWELL
Prince Timothy Beyioku came, served, taught, led, mentored, loved and left an enduring legacy.
Though his departure brings profound sorrow, his life provides abundant reasons for gratitude to Almighty God. The pain of his absence will be felt, but the lessons he taught, the lives he influenced and the values he upheld will continue to speak for generations.
