Dr. Samson Àdegókè Maigida stands tall among the most respected sons of Ogbomosoland, not only for his sterling professional career but also for his far-reaching humanitarian contributions that continue to touch lives across Oyo State and beyond.
An Ogbomoso-born technocrat and renowned philanthropist, Dr. Maigida served meritoriously as the Director of Finance and Accounts at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Keffi, Nasarawa State. Throughout his tenure, he distinguished himself as an exceptionally amiable, accommodating and intellectually grounded administrator whose leadership transcended ethnic, religious and social boundaries. Colleagues, staff and stakeholders—both within Nasarawa State and in the diaspora—fondly recall his period in service as one marked by professionalism, fairness and uncommon administrative savvy.
Beyond public service, Dr. Maigida has etched his name in gold through his unwavering commitment to community development and social welfare, particularly in Ogbomosoland and Oyo State at large. His passion for humanity finds expression through the Maigida Charity Foundation, a non-governmental organisation established to cater for the poor, vulnerable and less privileged. Over the years, the foundation has distributed palliatives, provided social support and restored hope to countless families, thereby contributing meaningfully to poverty reduction and social stability within Ogbomoso and its environs.
Education remains a core pillar of Dr. Maigida’s philanthropy. His impact is strongly felt at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, where he donated a postgraduate e-library to enhance research, learning and academic excellence. In addition, he has sponsored scholarships for indigent students studying both within Nigeria and abroad, easing financial burdens and empowering the next generation of scholars and professionals.
In Ogbomosoland, his contributions to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) are particularly noteworthy. Demonstrating a deep concern for healthcare delivery and institutional development, Dr. Maigida facilitated the construction of a maternity ward and a model public hospital in Oyo State. These interventions have significantly improved healthcare access and strengthened LAUTECH’s standing as an exemplary institution in Nigeria.
His benevolence further extends to grassroots community development through the provision of boreholes, generators and electricity transformers to underserved communities. These projects have improved living conditions, boosted local economies and reaffirmed his reputation as a compassionate leader deeply connected to the needs of his people.
In recognition of his integrity, visionary leadership and immense contributions to education and national development, Dr. Maigida was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate Degree (Honoris Causa) by the Federal University, Lokoja. The honour was bestowed by the Chancellor, His Royal Highness, Dr. Muhammed Abali Ibn Muhammed (CFR), the Emir of Fika and Chairman, Yobe State Council of Chiefs and Emirs.
