The Rivers State Government has announced the commencement of its transition from emergency rule to democratic governance, describing it as a historic milestone in the state’s political journey.

As part of activities to usher in this new era, an interdenominational church thanksgiving service will hold on Sunday at the Ecumenical Centre, Abonima Wharf Road, Port Harcourt, by 10:00 a.m., with guests expected to be seated by 9:30 a.m.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika, invited key stakeholders, including permanent secretaries, local government chairmen, security and paramilitary heads, traditional rulers, board members, captains of industry, and other distinguished personalities.

Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), the Rivers State Administrator, will serve as Special Guest of Honour, while Governor Siminalayi Fubara is expected to lead political leaders and citizens in thanksgiving, reflection, and prayers for divine guidance.

According to the government, the thanksgiving service is not merely ceremonial but a spiritual foundation for the journey ahead — symbolizing the state’s decisive shift from crisis to a governance model anchored on democracy, inclusivity, and hope.
