The Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Oyo State, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday at the age of 82.

In a statement released by Mr. Sunday Adepọju, Acting Director of the Centre for Information, Communication and Public Relations (CICPR), the Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, conveyed the heartfelt condolences of the Governing Council, Management, staff, students, and the entire Polytechnic community.

The Rector described the loss as not only national but also deeply personal to the Polytechnic, given Buhari’s pivotal role in its establishment.

“The Federal Polytechnic Ayede was thrown into mourning following the demise of His Excellency, former President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR),” Dr. Abdul-Hameed said. “His administration contributed immensely to the advancement of technical and vocational education in Nigeria, particularly through the establishment of our institution in February 2021.”

He noted that under Buhari’s leadership, six new federal polytechnics were approved, including Ayede, adding that the former president also ensured the appointment of reputable professionals to lead the institution.

“Former President Buhari authorised the appointment of Professor Dakas C.J. Dakas (SAN) as the pioneer Governing Council Chairman, alongside other distinguished members, as well as myself as the pioneer Rector. This brought credibility and sound leadership to the Polytechnic, which has since grown to become one of the fastest-developing among its peers,” he added.
