In a bold stride toward transforming public transportation in Oyo State, the Seyi Makinde-led administration is nearing the completion of the Twin Terminals project in Ibadan — a visionary initiative inspired by Malaysia’s iconic Petronas Twin Towers.

The Twin Terminals are designed to modernize the state’s transport system by improving the mobility of people, goods, and services, while significantly enhancing inter-city connectivity. The facilities will also provide a conducive environment for commercial activity, with strong potential to attract businesses and stimulate local economic growth.

A hallmark of Governor Makinde’s administration has been its data-driven approach to governance. This philosophy is reflected in the strategic development of four modern bus terminals across Ibadan: Ojoo, Challenge, Ife Road, and Iwo Road. Once operational, these terminals are expected to serve over 50,000 commuters daily, enhance business operations, and boost the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

A major highlight of the Ife and Iwo Road Twin Terminals is the pedestrian bridge linking the two facilities. This feature not only ensures commuter safety by eliminating the need to cross the busy Ife Expressway but also enhances the overall efficiency of the transit system.

Beyond transportation, the terminals are designed as integrated commercial hubs. The open spaces will house traditional clothing vendors relocated from Gbagi Market, alongside showrooms, cinemas, and food courts. Equipped with modern amenities such as lifts, escalators, and convenience facilities, the terminals are poised to become vibrant economic centers.

The construction is being handled by Messrs Planet Project Ltd, a firm with a solid track record in terminal development, having delivered similar projects in Lagos, Ekiti, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The final inspection ahead of the project’s commissioning was conducted with key stakeholders in attendance, including Alhaji Tomiwa Omolewa, Chairman of the Park Management System (PMS), and Mr. Bayo Ojuri, the contractor’s representative.

With its scale, design, and strategic intent, the Twin Terminals project is set to redefine urban mobility and economic activity in Ibadan, aligning with the Makinde administration’s broader vision of sustainable infrastructure and inclusive development.
