The Management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, expresses deep sorrow over the tragic incident that occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the Ultramodern Wazo Market, Ogbomoso, which claimed the life of one of our students during a sign-out ceremony.
It is important to note that the University, since 2023, has placed a strict ban on sign-out activities within its campus and has formally communicated this prohibition to hotels and hospitality facilities in and around Ogbomoso, directing them not to host such events for LAUTECH students.

Preliminary investigations, however, revealed that a group of students defied this directive and organized a sign-out ceremony on the football pitch within the Wazo Ultramodern Market. Tragically, during the event, a male student was reportedly shot. He later left the venue on his motorbike but collapsed along the way and was found unresponsive.
Upon receiving a distress call, the Acting Dean of Student Affairs promptly visited the scene and contacted relevant units of the Oyo State Police Command in Ogbomoso, including the Monitoring Unit and the Area Command. Police operatives were immediately deployed, and a search of the bag found on the victim led to the confirmation of his identity—Mr. Babalola Marvelous Olanrewaju, a 300-level student of the Department of Mechanical Engineering—through University records. His body was subsequently deposited at the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital morgue.
The University is working closely with the police to support ongoing investigations and has formally informed the deceased’s family.
The Management extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the late Mr. Babalola. May his soul rest in peace, and may his loved ones find comfort in this time of grief.
