Rivers State is in a jubilant mood following President Bola Tinubu’s announcement of the end of the six-month state of emergency imposed on the state.

In a statement released by the Presidency on Wednesday, Tinubu directed Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, including Speaker Martins Amaewhule, to resume duties from Thursday, September 18, 2025.

The President declared “It gives me great pleasure to announce that the state of emergency in Rivers State shall end at midnight today. Governor Fubara, the Deputy Governor, and members of the House of Assembly are to return to their offices and continue their constitutional responsibilities.”

The lifting of the emergency rule, which was imposed six months ago amid political unrest, has been widely welcomed by residents. Across Port Harcourt and other parts of the state on Wednesday, citizens expressed excitement over the development, describing it as a fresh opportunity for peace, governance, and progress.

Governor Fubara is expected to resume duties at the Government House today, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the oil-rich state.
