The Super Eagles of Nigeria will resume their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign on Saturday, September 6, 2025, with a must-win clash against the Amavubi of Rwanda on Matchday 7.

Both nations remain in contention for a ticket to the global showpiece, making the encounter at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, one of the defining fixtures in Group C. Kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. Nigerian time.

High Stakes in Tight Group

Nigeria’s qualification hopes hang in the balance after an inconsistent run that leaves them in fourth place with six points. A slip in Uyo could further complicate their path to the World Cup.

Group C standings ahead of Matchday 7:

South Africa – 10 points

Rwanda – 8 points

Benin – 7 points

Nigeria – 6 points

Zimbabwe – 4 points

Rwanda, currently second on the log, need only a point to stay within touching distance of a top-two finish, while Nigeria must secure maximum points to revive their chances.

Recent Meetings

The two sides have developed a competitive rivalry in recent years:

AFCON Qualifiers: 0-0 in Kigali; Rwanda stunned Nigeria 2-1 in Uyo.

World Cup Qualifiers (First Leg, 2025): Nigeria bounced back with a 2-0 away win in Kigali.

The mixed record underlines the unpredictability of Saturday’s clash.

What’s at Stake
