Southern Governors Meet in Ogun Today to Deliberate on Key National Issues

The Southern Governors’ Forum is set to convene today (Wednesday) in Iperu, Ogun State, to discuss pressing national and regional matters aimed at strengthening cooperation and advancing the collective development agenda of the southern region.

The meeting was announced in a statement issued by Ogun State Governor and Chairman of the Forum, Prince Dapo Abiodun.

According to the statement, the session is scheduled to hold at 10:00 a.m. at the Governor’s Residence in Iperu. It added that, in addition to the governors’ meeting, there will be a joint engagement with the Southern Traditional Rulers Council at 1:00 p.m.

The joint session is expected to provide a platform for in-depth discussions on shared regional interests and to reinforce collaboration between political leaders and traditional institutions.

In a post on X, Governor Abiodun expressed optimism about the gathering, noting that he had earlier received some of the distinguished attendees, including traditional rulers and regional leaders.

“As we prepare to host the Southern Governors’ Forum meeting today, we were pleased to receive some of the distinguished attendees, particularly traditional rulers and respected leaders from across the southern region,” he said.

“Their visit offered us the opportunity to deepen ongoing engagements and align our shared expectations ahead of the gathering. We value the presence of our royal fathers and regional leaders, whose wisdom and guidance continue to enrich our processes.”

The governor emphasized his commitment as host to fostering an atmosphere conducive to honest dialogue and stronger collaboration among stakeholders.

He added: “We remain committed to creating an atmosphere that encourages honest dialogue and fosters stronger collaboration among all stakeholders as we work together for the peace, stability, and development of our region, and by extension, our country.”
