The Rivers State House of Assembly has formally commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Oduh.
The move was initiated during plenary on Thursday, presided over by the Speaker of the House, Martins Amaewhule, and broadcast live on Channels Television. The Majority Leader of the Assembly, Major Jack, presented a notice of allegations and gross misconduct against the governor.

According to Jack, the notice was signed by 26 members of the House and anchored on alleged violations of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Speaker Amaewhule announced that the notice would be served on Governor Fubara within the next seven days, in line with constitutional provisions.
Invoking Section 188 of the Constitution, the Majority Leader outlined seven allegations of gross misconduct against the governor. These include the alleged demolition of the Assembly Complex, extra-budgetary spending, withholding of funds meant for the Assembly Service Commission, and refusal to comply with a Supreme Court judgment on the financial autonomy of the House of Assembly.
Following the presentation against the governor, the Deputy Majority Leader, Linda Stewart, also laid before the House a notice of allegations and gross misconduct against the Deputy Governor, Ngozi Oduh.
The allegations against Oduh include reckless and unconstitutional spending of public funds, obstruction of the House from carrying out its constitutional responsibilities, and connivance in allowing unauthorised persons to occupy offices without proper screening by the legally constituted Assembly.
Other accusations levelled against the deputy governor include allegedly seeking budgetary approval from an unauthorised group instead of the legitimate Rivers State House of Assembly, as well as the seizure of salaries and allowances due to members of the Assembly and the Assembly Service Commission.
The Assembly noted that further actions would follow in accordance with constitutional procedures as the impeachment process unfolds.
