The Oyo State Government has so far paid ₦5 billion to the Osun State Government as part of the agreement granting Oyo full ownership of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, who said the total sum agreed upon for the transfer of ownership was ₦8 billion. He added that the state has consistently paid ₦1 billion annually and is expected to complete the full payment by the end of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration in 2027.

Oyelade recalled that the agreement between the two states was reached on November 20, 2020, marking the end of a protracted dispute over the joint ownership of the institution, which lasted from 2007 to 2019.

He described the finalisation of the sole ownership as “God-sent,” noting that Governor Makinde was able to amicably resolve the issue with his Osun counterpart shortly after assuming office in 2019.

According to Oyelade, the university has experienced tremendous growth since coming under Oyo’s full control, earning recognition as the Best State University in Nigeria. He said LAUTECH has also expanded physically, with the establishment of the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources at its Iseyin campus.

He revealed that, in addition to the latest ₦1 billion remittance to Osun State last Thursday, the governor also approved ₦650 million as a take-off grant for the Teaching and Research Farm at the Iseyin campus.
