The Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Olushola Alao, has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the installation of Chief Dotun Sanusi as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland. In a call for peace, the revered monarch urged supporters of both the Alaafin of Oyo and the Ooni of Ife to cease their ongoing media conflict over the issue.
In his statement issued on Wednesday, Oba Alao, who also serves as the Deputy Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, emphasized the need for unity within the Yoruba community. He called on Yoruba sons and daughters globally to refrain from emotional outbursts that tarnish the reputations of the thrones of the Ooni and Alaafin, labeling the controversy as a result of baseless speculation.

“The recent uproar over the proposed conferment of the Okanlomo of Yorubaland title on Chief Dotun Sanusi, the proprietor of Ilaji Resort and Sports Centre in Ibadan, is completely unnecessary,” Oba Alao stated. “There is no truth to the matter; it is merely speculative. I have personally consulted with both the Alaafin and the Ooni, and I can confirm that both monarchs are committed to the unity and peace of Yorubaland.”
The monarch further clarified, “I have reiterated that the Ooni remains the Ooni, and the Alaafin remains the Alaafin. There is no supremacy dispute between them.”
Oba Alao’s message was a call for restraint, urging the Yoruba people to refrain from allowing emotions to dictate their actions. He warned that the ongoing media battle only serves to undermine the unity, respect, and honor central to Yoruba culture.
“Our cultural values are built on unity, peace, respect, and honor for our traditional rulers. To allow ourselves to be swept into media-driven controversies that lack substance is an affront to these values,” he said. “Even in the midst of misunderstandings, we must always remember our culture’s deep respect for our monarchs, as this is one of the defining features of our identity.”
The Olugbon further called for respect for the sacredness of Yoruba thrones, emphasizing that the dignity of the monarchs must be preserved and protected from any form of desecration, particularly from social media influencers.
“I urge us all to maintain the sanctity of our thrones, as they represent the essence of our heritage. Let us continue to uphold the omoluabi ethos in every situation,” he concluded.
The Olugbon’s statement underscored the collective responsibility of all Yoruba people to ensure peace and development in the region, reaffirming his commitment to promoting unity within the Yoruba nation.
“Ile Yoruba a gbe wa o!” he concluded, reaffirming the commitment to the prosper
ity of Yoruba land.
