In a bold gesture aimed at strengthening public healthcare delivery, prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Olufemi Onireti, has donated medical equipment valued at several millions of naira to the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

Speaking during the official handover of the items on Friday morning at the hospital complex, Onireti said the initiative was borne out of his desire to help ease the burden of residents in his community. He emphasized that while the state government under Governor Seyi Makinde has made significant strides in healthcare delivery, citizens must complement those efforts through personal contributions.

“People need help; things are hard. Let’s help our people,” Onireti said.

“We know our governor is doing well, but government cannot do it all. We should join hands, making little contributions here and there to make life better. I promise to do more. Let us know other areas where support is needed — write them out, and we will do what we can.”

The philanthropist, who was accompanied by PDP leaders in Ogbomoso, including Hon. Jide Oketunbi, Alhaji Ibrahim Hamzat (PDP Chairman, Ogbomoso North LGA), Town Planner Williams Odetunde, and Hon. Rotimi Oladipo (Secretary, Ogbomoso South LGA), expressed concern about the level of hardship in the country. He urged privileged individuals to rise to the occasion by helping to make life easier for the less fortunate.

Commending Governor Makinde for his commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure across Oyo State, Onireti stressed that such interventions should be sustained and complemented by private support. He appealed to the management of the teaching hospital to ensure that the donated equipment is put to judicious use and, as much as possible, made available to patients at no cost.

“We decided to take from what God has done for us because we believe this gesture will go a long way in alleviating the challenges faced by patients,” he noted.

“I plead with you to use these items responsibly and, if possible, offer them free to patients without imposing any charges.”

Hospital officials and community leaders at the event lauded the donation, describing it as a timely intervention that would significantly enhance service delivery at the facility.

With this contribution, Onireti reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that improve the welfare of Ogbomoso residents and pledged to continue identifying ways to assist critical sectors in the community.
