The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Oyo State, Engr. Dr. Taofeeq Adekunle Abdul-Hamid, FNSE, has charged the institution’s athletes to aim for excellence and bring glory to the Polytechnic as they participate in the 22nd edition of the Nigeria Polytechnic Games Association (NIPOGA).
He gave the charge during an interview with campus journalists at halftime of the opening football match between the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, and the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa. The match ended 3-0 in favor of the host institution, FEDPOFFA.
Dr. Abdul-Hamid emphasized that sports play a vital role in developing well-rounded students and complementing academic excellence. He urged the athletes to give their best and represent the Polytechnic with dignity and determination.
“Strive to be the best—not just in your games, but as worthy ambassadors of the fastest-growing Federal Polytechnic in Nigeria,” he said. “The Olympic spirit is about participation, but I urge you to go for gold. Let FEDPA’s name echo across the nation and beyond.”
He further reminded the students that education extends beyond the classroom, and their performance on the field contributes significantly to the institution’s image and overall development.
In a related development, the Acting Director of Sports at FEDPA, Mallam Bashir Bello, praised the Rector’s visionary leadership, noting that his support and preparation strategies positioned the athletes for success.
He also commended the Rector of the host institution, Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Engr. Dr. Kamoru Kadir Oluwatoyin, for the successful hosting of the tournament, highlighting the event’s excellent organization, hospitality, and security.
Speaking on behalf of the team, FEDPA squad captain Olajide Peter Olakunle expressed appreciation to the Rector for his unwavering commitment to student development through sports. He assured that the team would give their best to make the institution proud.
The grand opening ceremony drew a host of dignitaries, including HRM Oba Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi (Aragbiji of Iragbiji), Senator Yisa Ashiru (representing Kwara South), Hon. Sulaimon Olatunji (Chairman, Offa Local Government), alongside notable Offa chiefs, rectors of other polytechnics, sports officials, coaches, fans, and members of the media.
