The Area Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Igboora Area Command, DCN Akomolafe Adekola Ismaila, has been decorated as an African Ambassador for a Drug-Free Society by the Best Brain Initiative for Human Development. The honour, conferred on October 6, 2025, recognizes his outstanding contributions to the fight against drug abuse in Oyo State and Nigeria at large.

Presenting the award, the Executive Director of the organization, Ambassador Dr. Ojewola Olatunde, stated that the initiative aims to identify and honour 100 individuals across Oyo State who have made meaningful impacts in curbing drug abuse. He explained that DCN Akomolafe’s recognition was based on his relentless efforts and dedication to reducing drug misuse through advocacy, enforcement, and community sensitization.
According to Dr. Ojewola, the Best Brain Initiative for Human Development has made the fight against drug abuse one of its key programs, given the rising cases of drug misuse among youths. He added that the organization has been partnering with the NDLEA to intensify awareness campaigns and enlightenment programs across schools and communities.
In his acceptance speech, DCN Akomolafe Adekola Ismaila expressed profound appreciation to the leadership of the Best Brain Initiative for the honour bestowed on him. He assured the organization of his continued commitment to promoting a drug-free society and pledged to use his new ambassadorial platform to further strengthen public awareness and preventive measures.
He emphasized that drug abuse remains a global menace with devastating effects on individuals, families, and communities, especially the youth population. “Drug abuse is a complex issue that has claimed countless lives, destroyed families, and ravaged communities, requiring a collective response,” he said.
Akomolafe recalled the launch of the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign on June 26, 2021, by the late President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, to involve every Nigerian in eradicating illicit substances. He noted that the campaign has since been domesticated through the establishment of State Drug Control Committees (SDCC), Local Government Drug Control Committees (LGDCC), Ward/Community WADA Teams, and WADA Clubs (formerly Drug-Free Clubs) in educational institutions—structures that are essential to implementing the National Drug Control Masterplan (NDCMP 2021–2025).
He pledged to collaborate with stakeholders, community leaders, and relevant institutions to spread awareness about the dangers of substance abuse while supporting victims of addiction through rehabilitation and positive engagement.
“Together, we must build a society where youths can thrive and realize their full potential, where families live in peace, and communities prosper,” he urged. “Everyone must understand that drug abuse requires a comprehensive approach—addressing root causes, providing treatment access, and promoting healthy lifestyles.”
DCN Akomolafe commended the Best Brain Initiative for Human Development for its continuous advocacy and pledged the NDLEA’s unwavering support in ensuring a sustainable, drug-free future for Nigerian communities.
