Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a Lagos-based cleric for allegedly masterminding large-scale drug shipments from Ghana into Nigeria.

The suspect, identified as Prophet Adefolusho Olasele, also known as Abbas Ajakaiye, is the founder and General Overseer of The Turn of Mercy Church, Lekki. He was apprehended on Sunday, August 3, 2025, in a dramatic sting operation at the church premises along Okun Ajah, Ogombo Road.

NDLEA operatives, who had maintained surveillance on the church since morning, swooped in moments after the preacher concluded his evening service.

According to the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the arrest came after months of manhunt. Olasele had reportedly fled to Ghana to evade capture, having been linked to two major seizures of “Ghana Loud” — a potent strain of cannabis — smuggled into Nigeria via waterways.

The first interception occurred on June 4, when operatives seized 200kg of the substance at Okun Ajah beach. A second bust on July 6 uncovered 700kg concealed in his delivery van.

While in custody, the suspect allegedly confessed to ferrying the illicit consignments from Ghana and admitted to twice escaping NDLEA operations before fleeing abroad.

Babafemi said investigations are ongoing to dismantle the suspect’s local and international drug network.
